MHBA Officer Introductions; Former President Dave Schroeder will fill us in what was covered at the ABF Conference in warm, sunny Las Vegas in January.

Speakers: Ed Simon – Bee Equipment Essentials. Ed is a retired IBM executive and got into bee keeping for retirement. He loves to make things rather then just buying everything. He lives down by Oronoco which is about 15 miles north of Rochester. He spoke at the ABF convention in Las Vegas. At ABF he discussed setting up a wood shop for making bee equipment. He said that he will be actually putting together a medium hive body. His book Bee Equipment Essentials was featured by Kim Flottum in Bee Culture magazine.

Speakers: Dr. Marla Spivak – She will give an update on research and outreach that are being conducted at the University of Minnesota Bee Lab. Research updates will include studies on propolis, landscape effects on bee health, and an upcoming study on “bee lawns”. Outreach updates will include news about the urban Bee Squad program, the new Bee Tech-Team for commercial beekeepers in the Upper Midwest, and the Bee Informed Partnership.

Speakers: Dave Schaaf will review the 2012 Bee & Honey Show and give an update on plans for the Ag-Hort building renovation and our ideas for the new Bee & Honey Show. It’s going to be an interesting presentation. Come early (6:30 PM) to see a slide show of images from this year’s show. It will be an enjoyable way to relive those last two glorious weeks of summer.
