Speakers: Ellen and Joseph Coffey will talk about “Rooftop Hives in Paris, France.” Plus highlights from the 2014 American Beekeeping Federation Conference.

Speakers: JoAnne Sabin, Dan Palmer and Ian Lane will talk about bee-friendly plants. JoAnne Sabin is a Dakota County Master Gardener and educator. She teaches several beekeeping classes through community education programs. Dan Palmer is an entomologist. He teaches a beginning beekeeping class through Three Rivers Park District. Ian Lane is a masters student in the U of M Bee Lab. His research focuses on incorporating flowering plants into grass lawns to provide bee foraging areas in urban landscapes.

Renata Borba will discuss “Seasonal Benefits of Propolis for Honey Bee Health and Immunity”. Renata, a native of Brazil, is currently a Ph.D. student in the U of M Bee Lab. Her research focuses on the role of propolis in the hive.

Horticulture Building at the State Fair Grounds. Bring a dish to share. Demonstration for volunteers extracting honey at the fair.

We will extract some honey from our hobby colonies as well as treating the colonies for mites if levels are high. All members are welcome; however, it is important to bring a veil and any other clothing that you would normally use when you work your colonies.
